TO HOST BARBICAN DIRECTORSPECTIVE IN JANUARY 2011

This January, award-winning director ANDREI KONCHALOVSKY will introduce a season of some of his most celebrated Russian language films at London’s Barbican Arts Centre. This season of films, hand-picked by the director himself, will run from Thursday January 20 to Sunday January 30 as part of the  arts centre's  popular 'Directorspective' program. 

Internationally acclaimed for his work as a director for both stage and screen, ANDREI KONCHALOVSKY studied at the VGIK under Mosfilm's veteran filmmaker Mikhail Romm. His career has seen him receive both Soviet censorship and a plethora of major International awards over the years.

Konchalovsky’s best-known film credits range from international successes such as Siberiada, (Grand Prix Special Jury Prize,  Cannes Film Festival 1979), to such popular English language fare as Runaway Train, which earned three Academy Award® nominations, Maria’s Lovers, Duet for One and Shy People.

ANDREI KONCHALOVSKYhas also earned acclaim for such landmark television epics as The Odyssey, for which he won an Emmy Award as best director, and Lion in Winter, which received a Golden Globe Award for costume design, as well as multiple Emmy awards and nominations.

Konchalovsky's most recent projects were a stage production of War and Peace at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and a modern day musical feature film re-telling of the famous Hoffman fairytale, The Nutcracker in 3D (starring Elle Fanning, Richard E. Grant, Nathan Lane and John Turturro).
